Faculty Position in Research-Practice Partnerships

The University of Pittsburgh School of Education is seeking a faculty member to join our community with a focus on Education and Research-Practice Partnerships, at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (in the tenure-stream). Research-practice partnerships and community- engaged initiatives are central to our School’s new strategic plan. Thus, we seek a colleague who examines productive ways to coordinate research and practice in pursuit of equitable, just, and sustainable educational change. This person would join our vibrant community of researchers and practitioners focusing on the dynamics that characterize successful research-practice work, with emphasis on partnerships, organizational processes, networks, and/or improvement. We prioritize scholars with deep experience working in collaboration with sites of practice and/or engaged in empirical studies and theory building activities aimed at better understanding the dynamics at play when forging tighter connections between research and practice. We see this hire as a catalyst to bridge existing strengths within the SOE and inspire new lines of cross-cutting work. Areas of potential synergy include, but are not limited to, K-12 school leadership, learning in informal educational settings, STEAM, and health and wellness education.
We seek candidates with strong theoretical and methodological credentials (expertise in qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed methods), a growing or an established record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, and the potential to compete successfully for external funding. The successful candidate will have opportunities to teach in our Ph.D., Ed.D., masters, undergraduate, and/or teacher preparation programs, depending on interests and expertise.
The candidate would join a vibrant community in the School of Education, at a time of great excitement, synergy, momentum, and action, particularly in relation to our explicit commitment to equity and justice in education. As a School, we are committed to determining sustainable ways to disrupt long-standing patterns of inequity and injustice in education. To that purpose, we invite applicants who engage in robust analyses of pressing educational issues and who investigate ways to interrupt inequitable educational practices through their teaching, research, and community-engaged activities.
The School of Education is currently reorganizing to focus on three significant areas: Health and Human Development; Teaching, Learning, and Leading; and Educational Foundations, Organizations, and Policy. We value collaborative work that is not constrained by rigid boundaries, but that is committed to the interconnections among departments, centers, and institutes. Thus, successful candidates will have primary academic affiliation in one of our departments and can also be cross-appointed within another department in our School. Relatedly, our School also offers opportunities to partner with our centers (e.g., Center for Urban Education, Healthy Lifestyle Institute, Office of Child Development), with our many partners at the university, and in various regional, national, and global communities.
