Drawing on cognitive change learning theory, teacher candidates learn to select and develop various assessments that reveal students' thinking and to draw upon their understanding of students' ideas to scaffold learning experiences in the classroom. Emphasis is placed on strategies that build and support students' capacity to engage in mathematical discourse.
