This course introduces students to major theories from organizational studies that can help explain how postsecondary institutions and fields maintain or transform their structures over time. Students will engage with both foundational literature in the field as well as work more critical of race- and power-evasive approaches to organizational analysis. This course is particularly concerned with how and why inequities in higher education persist even in the face of myriad attempts at the macro and micro level to eradicate them. Students will take up tools of the field to propose their own empirical study of organizational persistence and change.
