Entrepreneurship for Education
The Goldman Prize
The Goldman Prize has been established with support from Richard and Renée Goldman to encourage entrepreneurship in education. The 2017 Goldman Prize competition is meant to stimulate more educational innovation within the broader Pitt family. The core element of the plan is a competition for a Big Idea that significantly addresses a serious problem in American education.
The finalists for this year’s Goldman Prize will make their “shark tank” presentations on the evening of Monday, September 25th. It provides support for Pitt students, faculty, or alumni to develop an innovative education idea into a usable and sustainably marketable product. In this first competition, contestants first submitted a brief description of their innovative idea. From these initial ideas, seven finalists were chosen to make brief “shark tank” presentations to a panel of judges on September 25th. The panel will include educational and business entrepreneurs as well as educators aware of the most important needs of our schools.
The final competition on Monday, September 25th will take place at the University Club. Here is the schedule:
- 6:30 pm – 6:45 pm: contestants and audience arrive; light refreshments available.
- 6:45 pm – 7:00 pm: introduction and brief remarks by Dr. Goldman
- 7:00 pm – 9:06 pm: presentations by contestants (10 min presentation, 5 min questions, 3 min transition to next contestant)
- 9:06 pm – 9:40 pm: judges deliberate
- 9:40 pm: winners announced who will share $30,000 in prizes
